Recap For Week Ending December 15, 2012

JUNIOR VARSITY
The Junior Varsity had another strong showing as their hard work is paying dividends on the mat. The JV Bulldogs notched 32 wins against 21 losses this past week at the JV Jamboree at Lee high School. The team had outstanding performances from Brock Nelson, Roger Quiroga, Matt Schlink, Bria Qaradaghy, Eddie Park, Craig Edwards, Cam Hocog, Joey Grant, and Trent Hocog. Jason Villanueva and Gabe Martin earned their first victories. Satchel Page won an exciting overtime match at the end!
Up next, the JV Grapplers will be hosting a home dual format event on Wednesday, December 19th in the gym. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.

VARSITY
The Varsity team earned a first place finish this past weekend at the Glenn Jones Charger Classic, hosted by Henry E. Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland. Bulldogs wrestled in 13 weight classes, placing in 11, against the 31 team field from Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland to take the crown. Tournament Champions, Garrett Maged (132) and Frank Aiello (170) lead the Bulldogs, followed up by 2nd place finishes by Derek Arnold (138) and Stephen Aiello (160). Seniors Beau Donahue (152) and Tyler Morson (182) placed 3rd. Sophomore Justin Yorkdale (120) and Freshman Jay Aiello (145) each wrestled back to place 4th. Sophomore Ryan Yorkdale (126) placed 5th. Junior Gabe Ryan (113) and Sophomore Austin Knies (195) placed 7th. The team showed tremendous determination in the wrestle backs and maximized the bonus points to win the tournament. Congratulations to Brendon Lutz (220) on his first Varsity win!
This coming weekend, December 21-23, Garrett Maged (132), Derek Arnold (138), Beau Donahue (145) and Tyler Morson (182) will be competing at the Beast of the East Tournament hosted at the University of Delaware. “The Beast” is in one of the toughest tournaments on the East Coast and will have a field comprised of many nationally ranked wrestlers in each weight class. The rest of the team will have the weekend off but will be preparing to travel to Lancaster, PA for the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic the following weekend.

Recap For Week Ending December 8, 2012

JUNIOR VARSITY
The Junior Varsity had another strong performance this week at the Langley JV Jamboree. The team, continues to improve and posting 21 wins and 16 losses. Joe Caron, Mario Hernandez, and Brock Nelson still are undefeated for the light weights. Luke McKennedy, Eddie Park, Matt Schlink, Patrick Ryan and Bara Qaradaghy had great performance for the middle weights. The “Big Boys” were once again dominant. Jake Andrews and Joey Grant picked up their first victories.
Over the Weekend 11 JV wrestlers traveled with the Varsity to Solanco High School in Quarryville, PA to compete in the 15th Annual Mule Classic JV Tournament. Austin Knies and Enes Karauslan both earned first place finishes. Other placers were: Chris Leo 2nd; Roger Quiroga and Jay Aiello 3rd; Austin Roe and Matt Schlink 7th. Great job JV!
Up next for the JV is another Jamboree at Lee High School on Wednesday, December 13th. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.

VARSITY
All eight wrestlers competing this past weekend, at the 15thh Annual Mule Classic hosted by Solanco High School, placed leading the team to a 4th place overall finish. The field, comprised of mostly PA teams, provided a solid test for the team. Beau Donahue and Stephen Aiello both earned 1st place victories. Tyler Morson finished 2nd; Frank Aiello and Derek Arnold 3rd; Gabe Ryan and Justin Yorkdale 5th; and Ryan Yorkdale placed 8th to round out the results. Up next for the Varsity Bulldogs is the Glenn Jones Charger Classic at Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland.

Recap For Week Ending December 1, 2012

The 2012-13 Wrestling season has officially started with the JV Bulldogs competing in multiple events this week and the Varsity doing battle at the Ray Oliver Duals. The kids worked hard throughout the off-season and that work is showing dividends with some fantastic early season success.
JUNIOR VARSITY
The Junior Varsity has a solid showing at the first JV Jamboree of the season at Madison High School. The team, comprised of mostly first year wrestlers, showed a lot of determination and grit in posting 28 wins against 29 losses. The heavy weights, led by Chris Leo who secured two victories by fall, wrestled very well. Light weight and Middle weight wrestlers Matt Schlink, Eddie Park, Mario Hernandez, Brock Nelson also had strong performances.
Over the Weekend 7 JV wrestling took part in the Pre-season Capital Area Wrestling League Tournament, one of the most competitive tournaments in the metro area. Of the 7 wrestlers competing Westfield had 3 place: Matt Schlink 4th, Rene Bermeasolo 4th, Robert Sangao 5th. The JV will be traveling on Wednesday, December 5th to compete in another jamboree at Langley High School. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.

VARSITY
The Varsity team earned a top 10 finish at the 40th Annual Ray Oliver Tournament this past weekend at the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland. The Ray Oliver, one of the top tournaments on the East Coast, had a field comprised of 14-15 top 10 nationally ranked wrestlers and proved to be an excellent first test for the short-handed Bulldogs who had only 9 scoring wrestlers in the field on Friday and Saturday. Senior Derek Arnold (145) and Junior Garrett Maged (132) both wrestled in tough brackets earning 3rd place finishes. Other Bulldogs who placed are: Gabe Ryan (113) 5th Place; Justin Yorkdale (120) 6th Place, Ryan Yorkdale (126) 6th Place, Stephen Aiello (160) 4th Place, and Tyler Morson (195) 5th Place. The Varsity Bulldogs will be competing in the 15th Annual Mule Classic at Solanco High School in Quarryville, PA this coming weekend.
